History
The
Morton House "Empire Style" mansion was completed in 1864 by master
builder John Wyman, for it's owners John and Georgiana Morton.
This historic property continues to be a landmark in the
Queens County area. The Morton family gained its wealth and prestige
in the lumber, shipping and mercantile business in the early 1800's.
John' s father, Sylvanus (1805-87), was an astute businessman who was
at one time the President of the Bank of Liverpool. He was
also a politician and an ardent political reformer who sat in the Legislative
Assembly in Nova Scotia (1860-63), as the elected Liberal member from
Queens County.

Your hosts, who became the owners of the Morton House Inn in December,
2005, have lovingly restored the property to reflect the 1800's atmosphere
and appeal. The legendary skylight that illuminates both the first and
second floor hallways of the Inn, of course, remains. Beautiful antiques
and furnishings, that reflect the 19th century era, are evident throughout
the Inn - all blended with the convenience and comfort of 21st century
living

A delightful and hearty breakfast greets you before you venture forth
to enjoy the many attractions in Nova Scotia's remarkable South
Shore Region.
